You have an opportunity to help us confront lung cancer when you stand up and make your voice heard. Advocacy matters. Your voice matters. Advocacy helps raise awareness and access to care, provides better support to people impacted by lung cancer and their loved ones, and fuels lifesaving research.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States but receives the least amount of federal research funding.
It is also one of the only cancers where people are routinely blamed as responsible for their diagnosis—an unfair stigma that we’re confronting every day.
When you take a public stand and tell your lung cancer story, you’re helping elected officials and the general public understand why they need to make lung cancer a national priority. Learn about our advocacy priorities, the impact of your advocacy, and how you can take action today.

Advocacy plays a critical role in confronting lung cancer. By raising public awareness about lung cancer, advocates help to shift this disease from one of stigma to one of hope. Advocacy offers us opportunities to educate lawmakers about health disparities and drive changes in policy to improve access to high-quality, affordable care for all. It’s also an opportunity to push for increased federal research funding to accelerate breakthroughs and cure this disease.
Advocacy impacts levels of research funding for early detection and more personalized treatments. It also helps increase public awareness. By working together, advocates, healthcare professionals, and policymakers can take important steps to improve lung cancer outcomes and save lives.
Advocacy is powerful—and empowering. From posting onFacebook, writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper and/or telling your story on Capitol Hill, advocates play a critical role in raising public awareness about lung cancer and the people impacted by this disease. Whether you are a patient, survivor, caregiver, or healthcare professional—you can help push for more research to unlock new treatment options and find a cure for lung cancer.
From the halls of Congress to a town hall in your community, finding opportunities to talk about lung cancer helps create empathy, inspire action, and reduce the stigma associated with the disease. Some advocates educate the public about lung cancer risk factors; others highlight the importance of screening and early detection. Some simply share their lung cancer stories. However you choose to be an advocate, when you take a public stand and tell your lung cancer story, you’re helping elected officials and the general public understand why they should support the causes that matter to you.
Advocacy brings awareness to lung cancer to confront the disease. While the focus is often on driving policy changes and boosting funding for research at the state and federal levels, advocacy plays a broader role in supporting people with lung cancer and their loved ones.
For example, advocacy is a key tool in the fight against lung cancer stigma. Each time someone impacted by lung cancer speaks out, they bring to life the people behind the disease and the need to value and unconditionally support everyone with lung cancer. Being an advocate also empowers individuals, providing an opportunity to shine a light on lung cancer and build community.
Advocacy brings attention to the importance of patient advocacy organizations and the work they do not only in the halls of Congress but also in providing educational materials, offering treatment and trial navigation support, as well as other vital resources. Advocacy offers avenues to reach beyond the people who can easily access support to those who would benefit from everything from lung cancer screening and early detection to comprehensive biomarker testing and clinical trials.
Lung cancer advocates shape public policy, influence legislation, and secure funding for research and support programs. Advocates work with a range of partners, from healthcare professionals to policy makers, to ensure that legislation increases research funding and improves access to high-quality screening, comprehensive biomarker testing, treatments, and palliative care.
Examples of our successes include expanded coverage for lung cancer screening, increased federal funding for research, the expansion of telehealth to transform access to high-quality care, long overdue health benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances, and much more.

What we’ve accomplished
GO2 proudly unites people impacted by lung cancer to speak out as one united voice. Thanks to advocates like you, we’re asking Congress to confront lung cancer at a national level to change the future of this disease.
We’ve helped secure over $200M in congressional investment in lung cancer research.
We’re seeking passage of the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act by the House of Representatives.
We established the first ever federal research pipeline specific to lung cancer. It continues to receive historic levels of funding.
